Champions League holders Real Madrid got their defense off to a winning start in Group H with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice and Sergio Ramos adding a third against Apoel Nicosia.

Forward Ronaldo opened the scoring by slotting home from close range and added a penalty in the second half while Captain Sergio Ramos scored the third with an acrobatic overhead kick from close range.

Zinedine Zidane’s side top Group H on goal difference ahead of Tottenham, who defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1.

Harry Kane struck twice to blow Dortmund and Tottenham’s Wembley hoodoo out of the water.

The England striker’s double, after he had set up Heung-min Son’s opener, ensured Spurs got their Champions League campaign off to a flying start although Jan Vertonghen was sent off late on.

Elsewhere in the Champions League, John Stones scored his first-ever career brace as Manchester City crushed Feyenoord 4-0 in Rotterdam.

Gabriel Jesus also netted on his Champions League debut as Pep Guardiola’s men ran riot in their opening match of the new European campaign.

Liverpool however, had to settle for a draw, as Joaquin Correa snatched a dramatic equalizer for Sevilla and even substitute Philippe Coutinho failed to earn Liverpool a deserved victory.

Roberto Firmino slotted home and missed a penalty while Mohamed Salah netted a deflected long-ranger as the Reds roared back from Wissam Ben Yedder’s early opener in their first Champions League group game.
