Eight governors and opposition political strategists convened in Kisumu on Wednesday to map out campaign strategies to be employed by the opposition in the run up to the October 17 repeat poll.
The eight county chiefs are keen on ensuring opposition Raila Odinga’s strongholds register a high voter turnout during the poll in which Raila will take on President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Another meeting will be convened on a date yet to be agreed on.
More opposition governors are expected to attend.
The Wednesday meeting that was held at Kisumu’s Grand Royal Swiss Hotel was convened by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o bringing together county chiefs from the greater Lake Region.
Among those in attendance were Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Okoth Obado (Migori), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma) James Ongwae (Kisii) and John Nyagarama (Nyamira).
Also present was Siaya Deputy Governor James Okumbe who represented Governor Cornel Rasanga and Kisumu Deputy Governor Ochieng’ Owili.
Among resolutions arrived at were that each county chief constitutes a campaign team that will roll out door-to-door campaigns marketing Raila’s presidential candidature.
The governors’ team will also engage in raising campaign funds through NASA’s pay-bill number 991444 for the opposition chief and his Deputy Kalonzo Musyoka.
Also discussed in detail was how to strength the Lake Region Economic Block which brings together 13 counties forming the Lake Region.
The initiative involves identifying development strategic areas including agriculture, tourism, education, health, ICT, financial services and infrastructure.
The county chiefs took time criticize President Uhuru Kenyatta’s consistent attacks on the Judiciary.
Also in attendance were controversial NASA strategist David Ndii and the coalition’s political advisers Adams Oloo and Joe Ager.
