Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru has said NASA leader Raila Odinga is responsible for Tuesday’s pronouncement by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) that positions of prime minister and deputy prime ministers be created in government.
On Tuesday, NCCK proposed for a Constitutional amendment to form positions of Prime Minister, deputy prime ministers and leader of opposition in Parliament to be occupied by losers during elections.
Gakuru said Raila is ‘desperate’ to ascend to power and that “he has now decided to use churches in a bid to archive his greedy objective”.
“We are done with elections and everyone has to move on and build our country in line with the law. It is unfortunate that he (Raila Odinga) is trying to use the church to get to power when he clearly knows that our Constitution doesn’t have the positions of Prime Minister and any other positions to cater for the opposition. To me, it’s a lot of nonsense to use church in that order,” he said in a TV interview.
Gakuru also rubbished the former premier’s call for fresh elections following the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as president-elect after the repeat poll conducted on October 26.
NASA withdrew from the race citing IEBC unpreparedness for the poll.
“Kenyans turned out in large numbers to vote for Uhuru Kenyatta on October 26 and IEBC declared him the winner. It’s now time to restore our economy and forget about politics. We cannot get into other elections now and Raila should forget the idea,” he said.
NASA has described the repeat elections as ‘sham’ and maintained the opposition coalition will not recognise Uhuru’s re-election.
