An eye witness over an accident which led to the demise of the immediate former Nyeri County governor Dr. Wahome Gakuru has issued a statement which is quite different from that of police.
In a report released by police earlier on, the Mercedes Benz in which Wahome was traveling to Nairobi from Nyeri got a tire burst thereby causing the accident at 7:10am but the eye witness has given a different account.
“Driver namely Mr.Samuel Kinyanjui wanyaga aged about 39years old was driving a m/v reg.no.GVN 019A from Nyeri heading towards Nairobi along Kenol – Thika road and on board was Governor Nyeri Mr.Patrick Wahome kaguru, his PA Mr.Albert kaguru and escort cpl.Ahmed Abdi.M/v got a tyre burst during heavy downpour and the PA , Governor and escort sustained serious injuries . The witness says that the driver, identified as Samuel Kinyanjui by police, was trying to avoid hitting an oncoming motorbike on the Kabati-Thika highway leading to the fatal incident.
“I was right behind the governor’s vehicle when the accident occurred. A loaded motorbike was oncoming in a manner which appeared as if they were going to collide. The driver then tried to avoid hitting the motorbike leading to the accident. This incident happened at 7:08 am. I can vividly recall,” the witness said.
Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has also called upon CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro to launch investigation into the cause of the accident.
“I’m calling upon CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro to commence thorough investigation into the cause of the accident which led to the death of former Nyeri County Governor Wahome Gakuru,” he said.
The late governor’s body is at Lee Funeral Home as political leaders send their condolence messages to the bereaved family.
