Laikipia County Referral Hospital.

Laikipia County has secured an estimated Sh100million funding from two development partners as it prepares to roll-out a subsidized healthcare system.

The World Bank gave the county Sh85 million for improvement of maternal health in dispensaries and health centres while the Danish International Development Agency gave out Sh16 million for operations and maintenance of the facilities.

Health accounting officer Donald Mbogo said: “About 60 per cent of the World Bank funding will go to health workers based on what each dispensary has achieved in terms of reproductive health, deliveries and immunization.”

He added that the remaining amount will be directed at transforming health systems by equipping 15 newly-built dispensaries with fridges for storage of vaccines, buying equipment and training of health workers.

Eight health centre in the county will receive Sh450,000 each while 73 dispensaries will get Sh177,000 each from the Danida grant to pay electricity and water bills.
